I have been drawing and painting blackbirds since 2020. I explore the beauty of these birds and the color black. I began painting the black birds I saw frequently, crows. Painting crows and ravens has put me in touch with a world of knowledge about Corvids, their intelligence and their interwoven history in literature and art. I feel crows have knowledge that we can acquire. Birds and nature have been in the background of my experiences, but for now crows are in the forefront of my imagination and attention. Like most of us, I have had many experiences with this smart bird. I have fond memories of my son cawing back to crows as a toddler and I remember the dramatic scenes in Hitchcock’s movie, The Birds.
